@Javier: Thank you. Soon it will be winter solstice, and then the days start to get longer again. Every day is a few minutes longer than the previous.

Doug from Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom

I would really miss the daylight, still a little better than those further up north

19 Dec 2013 6:48am

@Doug: You are right. In Lapland, there are areas where the sun rises again until January.

Oh My God!!! What a dark evening !!! Lovely shot here :)

19 Dec 2013 11:44am

@Devi: We here in the north of the gear is always a very dark time. Length of day is a little less than six hours. In the summer it's light almost around the clock.

Frances from Massachusetts, United States

B. Thomas from Arlington, Texas, United States

I have only had a short visit in Finland, but it was in the bright summer. That's a short day. Nice evening shot.

19 Dec 2013 5:29pm

@B. Thomas: Great to read that you've been here. In mid-summer day here, we have more than 20 hours and in Lapland the sun does not fall for a few weeks at all.

Mhelene from Villiers-sur-Marne, France

Beautiful composition .

19 Dec 2013 6:15pm

@Mhelene: Thank you.

Ruthiebear from Titusville, NJ, United States

That is darkness for a long time - you captured the atmosphere perfectly

19 Dec 2013 6:25pm

@Ruthiebear: We live right now in the darkest period of time. After Christmas, the days begin to lengthen a few minutes at a time.

mahdi from rostamkola, Iran

Registration is a beautiful city. With rails and streets

19 Dec 2013 7:43pm

@mahdi: Thank you

Baldwin Vandewalle from Bejuma, Venezuela

Only six hours of light ... I can't imagine that, and for sure it's very cold too !!! Excellent night shot ... the colors are wonderful

20 Dec 2013 12:35am

@Baldwin Vandewalle: Day length changes according to the season. Now is the darkest time, but in mid-summer day length in southern Finland is about 20 hours and in Lapland the sun is visible continuously for a few weeks. Saturday is the winter solstice, and then begins to lengthen the day for a few minutes at a time.

The Mouse from Glasgow, United Kingdom

Dark and busy, not my favourite time of day when it is busy like this.

20 Dec 2013 3:29pm

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

Yes, it gets dark early here, too. Our days are longer than yours at this time of year. Sunrise was 7:53 AM and sunset will be at 4:22 PM.
