Kalakukko fish pies Kainuu Region.

Posted by Jypyä Pop (Turku, Finland) on 9 April 2017 in Food & Cuisine and Portfolio.

Kalakukko is a Finnish traditional dish. Rye dough of the shell is filled with fish and meat. and it is baked in the oven. Roasting takes several hours. After baking, fish cock is opened and eaten. In fact, I'm not an avid seafood eater, but for many this is the best delicacy. Kalakukko Savo is a "national dish". In this figure, kalakukko fish pies filled vendace called fish belonging to the genus whitefish.

Hello everybody. It is fine that You will see my pictures. I do not know English very well. Therefore, it may be some comments or answers seem strange. I'm trying to learn more. Thank you for your understanding.

@Mhelene: The oven was heated by burning the trees in the first, and after it was suitably warm the purified carbons and the ashes and placed kalakukko fish pies baked. The same method was baked pies and breads. Thank you for your interest

Ohh ! I'm sorry to ignore this. On my recent trip to Lapland, they did not tell me anywhere. I ate, reindeer, bear, salmon but not Kalakukko. It's a same.

@Graciel·la (Vic. Catalonia): Kalakukko is more of North Ostrobothnia and Savo food. consists precisely in the Northern Ostrobothnia region. You have had bad luck, because usually kalakukko fish pies are sold through the shops. If you are traveling to Finland yet, visit Kupopio or Savonlinna. You can not escape the kalakukko fish pies.
