beach from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada

Lovely scene on a lovely day. So why is Turku bilingual?

16 Jun 2017 10:20am

@beach: When Turku was founded about 800 years ago, Finland was in Sweden. The Swedish rulers have held a staff at the Turku Castle in addition to Stockholm. In 1809 after the Finnish War, Finland was annexed to Russia, from which it became independent in 1917, that is, a hundred years ago.
