Houses are spared the great fire in 1827. Then almost the whole Turku flooded to the ground. Today, they are part of a craftsman's museum where old ways of working are presented and products are produced in old ways.

Comment tondre l'herbe sur les toits ?

6 Aug 2017 4:37pm

@Claudiel: I'm not quite sure, but maybe before there were goats who took care of the roof of the grass.

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

Very well made houses that have lasted so long. An interesting growth on some of the roofs. I have to clean the moss of my roof every year.

6 Aug 2017 5:53pm

@Steve Rice: These were overlays. Below was a layer of soil on which the mold was applied.

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

The roof materials make them look very environmentally friendly, before we even thought of doing that :-)

interesting grass roofd; hope a cinder from the chimney doesn't start a fire

6 Aug 2017 11:26pm

@Harry: The fire at that time was the greatest risk for the whole city.
