It's only a few weeks for Christmas.

Posted by
Jypyä Pop (Turku, Finland) on 29 November 2018 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

A Christmas tree was brought before the Turku Cathedral on Wednesday. Lamps are attached to it and it illuminates until the 13th of January the church and its nearby surroundings. Turku Cathedral is the National Church of Finland. Wood is 22 meters high and weighs about 4.2 tons. The age is 85 years. Wood was donated. It grew too close to the house and therefore it was wanted to overthrow it. Ta, after 13th of January, it will be cleared to the desired pieces of the donor and returned to the donor.

Oh, the excitement! Fun shot of all the activity. And a lovely church. Any chance you can get some inside the church shots for us? Sneak your camera in on a Sunday morning? Buy the pastor a coffee (or vodka)?

29 Nov 2018 11:49am

@beach: I try to visit the church on a Saturday afternoon. Then there is a small celebration when the lights of the fir tree are lit. Maybe later I'll be in the church too.

I wonder what the donor will do with it when it is returned. Lovely snow scene by the church.

29 Nov 2018 3:19pm

@B. Thomas: The donor must decide how to sawn it. Someone wants firewood and someone wants to use it for some construction.
